Well last evening into early this morning proved to be a very busy morning for the dedicated members of the Wyckoff Fire Department.

At 11:56pm last evening, Wyckoff Police dispatched the FD for a reported fire in the cul-de-sac of Merrywood Drive.  Just after dispatch, additional callers reported that the fire was actually a garage fire in a residence on Merrywood. Chief Murphy signed into service and received the updated report from the police department and immediately requested a 2nd alarm assignment be dispatched.

Upon arrival, Chief Murphy reported an active fire in an attached two car garage with two vehicles inside. Engine #233 (OIC BC DeBlock), Tower Ladder #241 (OIC BC Vanderplaat), Rescue #242 (OIC DC Rose), Engine #232 (OiC DC LoRuss) and the remainder of the Wyckoff assingment signed into service.

The 2nd alarm assignment units called into the scene included FAST Teams from Ramsey and Hohokus, Waldwick TL #641, Franklin Lakes Engine #331, Hawthorne Engine #1 and Oakland Rescue #1034.

The initial crews on scene were quickly able to get water on the fire and contain the fire to the garage area with no extension to the residence.

Great job done by all on scene and thanks to our mutual aid towns for the assistance.

Just as members fell back asleep for some much needed rest,  at  4:45am Wyckoff Police dispatched a mutual aid request for Rescue #242 and Engine #233 to respond to Hawthorne for a working structure fire in their town on Royal Avenue.

Chief Murphy #230 and Rescue #242 (OIC DC Rose) were directed into the scene and Engine #233 (OIC BC Deblock) were directed for coverage at Hawthorne FD Headquaters.

Upon the arrival of Chief Murphy and #242, the crew was immediately assigned to assist Hawthorne crews in gaining access to a detached two car commercial garage where the fire originated.  Hawthorne crews were getting water on the fire and protecting nearby exposures while the Wyckoff Crew assisted by opening up the remainder of the structure and working with hose teams to find the seat of the fire.

Great job Chief Speranza and his crews for a quick knockdown of this deepseated fire and the protection of the adjoining structures.
